After years of yoga practice spent searching for ways to preserve women

We all know that in the Middle Ages alchemists turned mercury first into silver and then, with the philosopher’s stone or some other magical elixir, into gold. I trained as a chemist. And of course my fellow students and I tried to repeat the experiment too.

I remember adding something fizzing and bubbling into flasks, heating it, precipitating it and obtaining… not gold, of course, but something quite unlike the original ingredients.

After years of yoga practice spent searching for ways to preserve women’s health, I came to a simple conclusion: the laboratory is inside us.

Mercury is the ever-moving mind. When you learn to concentrate and take your thoughts under control, you obtain silver. How do you transform silver? Through humility and selfless service to others.

The next stage is adding that magical elixir. Its role is played by love for the Creator and for all his creations — in other words, love for the whole World. And when this elixir is poured onto a heart warmed by love for one’s neighbour, it truly does become golden, and is able to express what the Creator himself wishes to express.

At that moment everything in a person changes. Literally. All their biochemistry, their whole structure — even their voice becomes different.

You may ask what women’s hormones have to do with it. They are the catalysts of this process. And what does yoga have to do with it? It helps you take the mind under control and opens the heart. So here are a few simple practices to help you along this path.

Step 1

Sit in Sukhasana (Easy Pose). Watch your breath, trying not to follow the stream of thoughts.

Step 2

Lie down in Balasana. Send rays out from each chakra as high as you can, into the sky. Watch the rainbow along your back.

Step 3

Place both palms over your heart, observing the sensations in that area. Fill yourself with love.

Step 4

Sit in Sukhasana. Raise your arms and your gaze upwards. Breathe slowly and deeply.

Try to be a perfect instrument. Take joy in every day. And remember that the true value is our “golden heart”.
